Die Insel Wadi El -Gama ist ein Naturschutzgebiet in der Nähe von Hamata und ein Nationalpark, der eine Fläche von 60 km umfasst und die Wadi Gemal-Inseln, die Küste des Roten Meeres, Korallenriffe, Seegraswiesen und Mangroven umfasst. Das Gebiet hat mehr als 450 Korallenarten und über 1.200 Fischarten, was es zu einem der besten Gebiete Ägyptens macht.

Etwa 17 % der Meereslebewesen im Wadi Gemal sind im Roten Meer beheimatet. Die Inseln sind Brutstätten für 13 seltene Vogelarten und lokale Seegräser sind auch eine wichtige Nahrungsquelle für einige andere gefährdete Arten. Wadi el Gemal ist einer der berühmtesten und nationalsten Meeresparks Ägyptens und liegt nördlich von Hamata und Berenice.
